The Alaska Outdoors Supersite was founded, in 1996, by David Johnson, retired biologist with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. The site was a byproduct of a print publication called, “The Outdoors Alaska Directory of Hunting and Fishing”. The original site included many pages of information about outdoor activities in Alaska, particularly hunting and fishing. Forums were soon added, and the site took off like a rocket, quickly rising to become the largest website on the Internet focused exclusively on the Alaska outdoors.
In 2009 the site transferred to Michael Strahan, who had been a major forum contributor to the site for several years. Under Michael’s leadership, the site went through a complete overhaul, a process which continues every year as new pages are added, legacy pages are rewritten and incorporated into the new site and new components and functionality are added.
But let’s not forget our roots! This page is your portal to the old site pages, most of which still contain information that’s relevant to today’s outdoors enthusiast. Of particular interest are the old forums, which contain many interesting and entertaining discussions relevant to hunters and fishers today. We intend to keep these pages around , and we hope you enjoy reading them for years to come.
