It rests in a spectacular scenic valley located at the terminus of a stunning narrow fjord on Larsen Bay some 60 miles southwest of the town of Kodiak. It is a traditional Alutiiq settlement that has been inhabited for almost 2000 years. Native residents still practice a subsistence lifestyle and harvest both fish and marine mammals. Their entire economy is based on fishing and the majority of residents hold commercial fishing permits. Tannery and cannery structures from the past still exist here and only lend to the entire charm of the area. Opportunities for the angler in sport fishing are superlative and are ranked among the finest on the island."
