[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] Power Catarafts Posted by Michael Strahan on Dec 04 2005 One thing I neglected to mention: If you go with the AIRE Leopard, the 18-footer, that boat really lends itself well to larger outboard motors. Some guys are running them with jet motors, but the jet application has always been problematic. If anyone comes up with a winning combination of proper transom height and good performance without getting soaked, I hope they post it here. That said, I've seen them rigged with full canvas for offshore fishing, and all the way down to the little 8-horse kicker I run on mine. The point is that while there's no such thing as an "everything" boat for Alaska, I think the larger cats come pretty close. With the Leopard hulls you have an excellent fly-out drift rig, a lake boat, and a pretty fair saltwater trolling setup. Something to consider, anyway.
