That "bycatch" is the figure people point to alot as something that should be fixed - however - NOTHING will ever be done about that, becuase most of that bycatch is done via the cod fisheries that are the BILLION dollar fisheries in the area....this is the 800lb gorilla in the market - that 14mil pounds is a drop in the bucket compared to the money taken on the cod.

This is so all our American kids can eat those deep fried fish schticks in the school lunch program, and the Imitation Crab everyone loves so much.
