Simpson Bay halibut & salmon
Posted by Kid on Dec 13 2005
Hi Andy, I have fished with Tom and Katy three times, you did well to book with them! Simpson Bay is a good location, you can run to some good salmon fishing at Raging Creek in less than 30 minutes. They will give you a map of several good halibut spots close to the cabins. Their halibut gear is good, and they give you some frozen herring for bait. You won't be able to anchor because it is too deep, but you can backtroll your motor at idle to stabilize your boat so you can drop your bait to the bottom. Most halibut are caught from 100 to 200 ft but they will also tell you that a woman from texas caught a 200 lb hablbut right from the wannigan dock at one of the Simpson Bay units.

Use black or purple leech patterns for salmon, also can try Pixees and Vibrax spinners in green and silver but be careful not to throw into the schools or you will be snagging a lot of fish.

Mark is right, you might be just a little bit early for a lot of silvers to be in yet but there will be a ton of pinks. They are good to eat if they are fresh from salt water, with sea lice attached and a bright silvery color. Do not try to eat them if they are starting to color-up. email me directly if you want through the forum by clicking on Kid and then "email".    Have a great trip,  Kid
