[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] egg cure Posted by ol timer on Jan 01 2006 this is the ol timer's cure for salmon eggs as well as any fish eggs. use whole milk to draw the blood from the eggs , in a large zip lock add a pint of milk per skein (2 skeins per fish), drain after a hour or so, add a small amount of brown sugar into your borax mix.1/4 part brown sugar to 3/4 borax.add some light colored koolaid or jello (1 pak) to add colors to your eggs if you wish. steelhead and salmon love the sugar cured eggs, the skeins are a bit harder than other cures too after they are done. be sure to cut your skeins into small dime or quarter sized pieces before you cure them. put them into a glass jar and add the ingredients in layers. shake them up every now and then to make sure all parts get treated. an ol gallon sized glass jar used to work best. but do with what you have nowadays. they are done when you feel them and they feel firm and the egg juice leaks out under pressure from your finger tips.put in freezer or in a dark cool place until ready for use. enjoy and good fishing.
