Never Enough
Posted by Mort on Feb 13 2006
You'll never have all the gear you need!!!

Concur with .338Mag.  Others that have worked well for me are the Mudraker, and the jigs by Tony Davis (Kodiak Custom).  I prefer the 12-oz, but 7 would probably work well in the right water.  Other colors for the curly tails include black/purple.  Those will always be visible as a shadow, even in low light.  Halibut will hammer the purple.  You may want to learn to tie your own gagnon leaders, though it's not really necessary.  I have several that I can hook between my main line and my jigs - give me something easier to grab to get a fish in the boat, especially when I don't want to gaff a fish.  B&J can hook you up with this stuff, too, but you might get some good deals at the Sportsman's Show - I always seem to find something I can't live without!
