Floating the Aniak...
Posted by Brian Richardson on Feb 16 2006
As some said it will always have log-jams & sweepers.  They are routine to deal w/ no matter who has floated it before you... always changing.

Overall the river itself is undemanding w/ the exception of the business with the jams.  If you are acquainted with how to load a boat for these conditions, have moderate river running skills, can look ahead - keeping on your toes by reading conditions on the go, and know some safety guidelines so you do not get sucked into a log jam situation... you'll be in good health.

The river will cloud up quickly! This is what I do not like about the drainage in general, plus there is no actual whitewater so more bugs and a little uninteresting day to day for me.

I think chainsaws on float trips are an exceedingly BAD notion... Above all if this is not your vocation in life or you rarely if ever use one week to week month to month.  You are asking for it!  Very dangerous machine to use anywhere but especially in wet, up to your waist, & slippery uneasy footing, awkward positions, etc. in addition to far away from express transportation and hospitals.  Bad plan & not ever in fact necessary on a float trip.  Yes tho’ - some will carry the risk.  I also think it promotes laziness around camps and takes away from the unspoiled surroundings.
