I fished the Kobuk near the Pah during the third week of September last year.  The river was high (according to the transporter) but we caught fish!  You just fish until you get tired, make coffee and start back fishing.

We were camped looking for bear, so we fished from the bank.  Used Daredevils, Crocodile spoons, etc. on 20 pound line.  We had Catfish rods simply because we could take them down for easier transport.  Threw the bait out as far as we could, let it sink as the current brought it back to the middle of the current and then started reeling slow.

Our largest was about 35 pounds but there were plenty over 20 pounds.  Lots of grayling.  One lake trout, and one salmon.  Hung one something that is still headed West as far as I know.

There were plenty of Pike in some dead end channels between Shugnak and Ambler also.  Same baits and equipment.  World class fishing.  You wouldn't regret fishing the Kobuk for shee fish even when the river is high and muddy.

Water proof boots and good clothes a must!

Good fishin'.
