Shee Fish
Posted by northwestalska on Feb 18 2006
Go west is the answer!
The Kobuk drainage is home to the big ones but you can catch nice ones in the Noatak drainages also. Shee fish are fish on the move and you have to be where they are at when they are there. Sounds simple, right? I would try a float trip down the Squirrel but keep in mind that we are freezing up in September. Depending on the year late September can be too late up here.
Last summer I caught a 45 ponder just out of Kotzebue about 5 miles in the Kotzebue Sound. My 7 year old hooked a 42 ponder about 6 miles up the Noatak in early spring through 5 feet of ice. Shee fish will hammer anything, the bigger and flasher the better.
Good luck on your quest for the monsters of the north!
