Some research
Posted by Chris_Stout on Mar 04 2006
Well,
If anyone knows different, correct me. But after doing some research it seems the laws are pretty strict on "profit". But, if you can prove that five people on the boat are (including the captain, no free rides) are splitting the cost of expendables (food, gas, ice, beer, ect) five ways to the penny, fish and feathers can't say anything about it because it's legal. Now, asking for a "little extra" to help pay for repairs, boat payments, ect is illegal and more to the point, not my style. That being said, the law is up to the interpreter, even if it is the officer at hand, and it would be best policy not to discuss monetary terms with the officer. Show your fishing/hunting licenses, make sure you and your friends are all using legal gear for the time/place, and otherwise don't tell the officer anything else but too have a nice day, because some of them will be "fishing" for answers that could get you a nice ticket.
With that said,
Fish hard, play hard, and die with a smile.
