shark
Posted by fisher on Mar 10 2006
I do a lot of shark fishing in PWS. This is not to be taken lightly as sharks are difficult to land, dangerous, and can easily be subject to latent mortality. After a long fight, sharks are likely to be overheated, overstressed, and will often become tangled in the leader and hang upside down. These sharks if lost (which is likely since the mainline may become wrapped around the rough skin-- I don't care how long your leader is) are dead. My fear is that many people doing this can unknowingly kill a large number of sharks. I've heard a number of tales about fighting a lot of sharks for a long time and losing them. These are likely to be dead.

Get the heaviest gear you can and take this seriously. Try not to damage more than you need. You will have fun. I believe that anyone who has to shoot a fish more than once probably shouldn't have a gun.
