Whittier, Seward, Deep Creek
Posted by Paul H on Mar 17 2006
Whittier is the closest, but due to the tunnel openings will take about as long to get to as Seward.  The plus to Whittier is more protected water, though the winds can send the water into a furry, so protected is a relative term.  Your also looking at motoring out a ways to get to good fishing.  Your boat is aptly named for Whittier, because you'll have the opportunity to jig in 100 fathoms or deeper if you wish, though most folks find 50 fathoms tiring enough.

Seward is the next closest, and has some great silver salmon fishing.  You will be driving through some mountain passes so something to think about when towing.  Halibut is ok, but unless you have a big boat, you really don't want to be getting much out of Reserection Bay.

Deep Creek is a solid 4 hour drive, and you'll have to pay the trailers to launch you, and thats spendy.  Fishing for halibut can be good pretty close in.  The water is the least protected and has the strongest tides.
