General rule.....
Posted by Snowwolfe on Mar 17 2006
The further you drive to launch, the less you have to travel in your boat to be into halibut.
Whittier is a 1 1/2 hour run from Anchorage- 2-3 hours to good fish.
Seward is 3 hours away- 1 hour plus to get into good halibut
Homer is 4 1/2- Great fishing is possible within 30 minutes of launcching.
It all depends if you want to put the hours on your vehicle or your boat. But Whittier is so cool to cruise out of due to its beauty. The more I fish the more I favor Seward.
