Alaska Trip
Posted by alaskanfishguides on Mar 19 2006
You're in luck.  This is a pink year for many of the main rivers around Alaska.  The fishing becomes catching very quickly when the pinks are in!!!  This is around the 2nd week in August on the Kenai Peninsula; maybe different in other areas.  Pinks are very aggresive fish that put up a good fight; perfect for any 10 year old (or dad for that matter).  This is also a great time to connect on a fall black bear hunt, or even a moose hunt for that matter.  Ducks don't open until September and while the pinks will be waning, the silvers will be building for some great action as well.  And besides all that, the rainbow fishing is the greatest in the fall, in my opinion.

August is typically a trasitional month in southcentral Alaska, going from summer to fall. The weather is normally very nice early and anybody's guess later.

There is much to do for a 10 year old and her dad in southcentral (Anchorage, Matanuska/Susitna Valley or Kenai Peninsula).  Many cultural venues, museums, interpretative sites, trails, streams to fish, and mountains to climb.

Lodging is typically very easy to come by in August as well.  I would recommend a cabin or B&B.

Good luck.
