Casting style reels are definitely the most popular for king fishing on the Kenai. Most king fishing is also done out of boats too.
If you're looking for a good levelwind reel, you don't need to look much farther than an Abu Garcia 6500 C3. Plenty of line capacity, good drag, and easily under your $100 limit. Plus they have a lifetime warranty on them and you can get them right or left handed. Now if you were targeting just the smaller salmon like reds, or silvers an Abu Garcia 5500 would be a little better choice...basically the same thing as a 6500, just a narrower spool wich gives you less line capacity. I've used the Abu's for a number of years on the Kenai and Kasilof Rivers for kings and they've never missed a beat. The Shimano Corsair is another reel that has worked well for me, but I don't think they're still making this line.
