Sheep Changes
Posted by Fullcurl on Apr 13 2005
Shphtr-
There are no changes to the regulations concerning sheep for the fall 2005 season.  The only sheep proposal to pass will be implemented in the 2006 season.  That proposal (101) established a new drawing hunt in 14C.  Only one hunter will be drawn.  The lucky winner will be able to hunt previously closed areas on the north and south side of Eagle River and along Turnagain arm in Indian Creek.  This proposal was submitted by FNAWS in order to make the 14C governors tag more attractive. The Gov. tag holder can hunt any area where there is a legal hunt, thus he would be able to hunt these previously closed areas as well. This hunt in effect creates a super exclusive area for the governor tag and one other very lucky sheep hunter in areas that hold some tremendous rams.  This should drastically increase the value of this tag which has languished the last few years,  increasing money for sheep conservation, without having an impact on the resource.
