.338 WM all around rifle?

Hi all, I have yet to buy a rifle for moose & caribou. I know some hunting guides who have recommended the .338 Winchester Magnum for a good all around rifle. What would you guys recommend? I know this is a very broad question, but if only one rifle was available, would the .338 be a consideration??
