great job JV!

Great hunt JV.  Good to hear of your success-you earned that goat! The best kind of hunt.
A tip for those who down meat up high on Kodiak and cannot possibly get it to camp:  (I know of one hunter who lost a nanny to a bear when we were down there. He had to leave it in the field overnight)
There are deep creek gorges which run up most all the mountains down there.  If you hang your meat (or gutted goat) from these sheer rock faces, it will be nearly impossible for a bear to get to it. Many of these gorges have nice muskeg-like tops and are fairly benign.  They simply roll over into the walls. Just be sure to use extreme caution at the tops of these areas for obvious reasons.  Bring plenty of rope and you can lower meat bags, or the aforementioned gutted goat down to a bear-proof area until you can bring it up and work on it.  Also, dont drop it, the gorges are deep! Keep the rope clean of blood or smell. An entire goat would be a two-man job. Double the rope if in doubt of its strength.
Horns/hide have to stay with the meat too, always the last thing to go out.
BTW We paid $128 total cost for our sat phone (for a week) at Surveyors exchange in Fairbanks. This included the $2.00 a min and we used 16 minutes :)
