[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] I agree with Mike Posted by DanC on Oct 08 2005 Although the Iridium system is much more expensive ($1.90/min) it is reliable almost globally. Where the GlobalStar phones are within the "footprint" of a satellite they are just as reliable and much less expensive (less than $0.50/min for most plans). But, due to economics, the GlobalStar coverage area is shrinking. Although most of Canada is covered up to the arctic, the "footprint" does not include most of Alaska. My home (in Haines) is just outside of the grid and I have to use the satellite as my primary telephone. This past summer I was unable to complete most of my attempts to communicate. It was so bad that I called GlobalStar to vent my frustration but I could not even complete my complaint before losing satellite communication.
