I've been a devoted Mac user and used them professionally for over 20 years.  But Mac is not THE system.  For example, don't even think about buying a Garmin GPS and extra maps.  Garmin doesn't support Mac, so you have to know someone who owns a PC or buy one yourself along with the GPS.  Lots of other examples of useful software that simply isn't available for Mac, to my great disappointment.
