Tents Revisted - Kotzebue Storm/monsoon
Posted by Jason in Anchorage on Oct 08 2005
All- need to purchase a heavy duty tent for AK drop off hunts up here.  I have slept in partners' Cabela's Guide tents (6 man) on 4 fly in hunts...ranging from interior moose hunts, caribou hunts out of Dillingham and a most recent hunt (tornado/monsoon) up out of Kotzebue two weeks ago.  The Cabela's guide tents have always kept us dry and safe.

On this most recent hunt we experienced HEAVY rain and bigtime winds for several days.  At one point the Cabela's guide tent poles (aluminum) were bending and we held them back/in place several times for fear of the tent collapsing.  This happend for a couple hours on and off during the HEAVY winds.  Once the winds died down we no longer had the issue and the tent performed fine.  No tears or damage to the tent afterwards.  I must say, I was surprised the winds collapsed the tent poles on wind facing end.  Had never experience that before.

I need to purchase a tent and I thought for a long while I would purchase the Cabela's Guide tent when the time came.  This most recent hunt has me wondering...
