I'm a softee on dogs. Since we have no kids we have a few dogs.  If I took mine along I"m sure they'd alert us.  If a bear came in after the dogs I would have no problem shooting the bear.  I sure wouldn't shoot my dog(s).  They are more valuable to us than many humans are.

Of course its all my opinion.  I do know my wife would fight to the death to protect the kids(dogs)
