Dave, this is what others envision also.  An access point at the least to allow for pratical use of the area.  Not necessarily a carte blanc "ride where you want and shoot it all up" mentality. Some of the fellas opposing the atv access stressed this and I totally agree.  Wide open spaces and solace afield is special. But I think they scrap the whole concept without an intelligent conversation.

At around mile 330 or so (Ice cut) I encountered a river at about 6-7 miles from the road out there, I think it was the Ivashak, maybe the Lupine. It would have been perfect to ride along and access the area from there.  It would have put me in a position to harvest an animal, and still protect tundra and assure a traditional hunt if the ride area was kept strictly to the riverbed.  And it would have been a 3-4 mile hunt rather than a 12-15 mile hunt.  I'm playing devils advocate for ATV use, but frankly I'm not convinced its the right thing. I'm just trying to weigh the options without ruling it out altogether. I get tired of LOSING ground (eg. Wrangell St. Elias Park, Gates of The Arctic Parks etc...)with our access rights.
