Cabela's XWT Tents
Posted by Wapiti57 on Oct 11 2005
Jason - just returned from caribou hunting about 50 miles north of Kotz. We did camp in the spruces just off the Eli River, so we had a degree of protection from the winds. We were there Sept. 19-25. Had plenty of wind and rain, but tents came through fine. Did a drop camp hunt and the XWT tents were provided by the outfitter.

I've used this same tent back home in the Rockies for early-season elk hunting, where the afternoon thunderstorms can get pretty severe with lots of wind, hail and moisture. So far, I have not had any issues with the XWT tent and really like it.

What I like most about the XWT is that the wedge/clam shape of the vestibule is nice for not only storage and drying (ha - like anything dries on a September hunt) but when the weather gets nasty we've used the vestibule on the largest model of this tent to put the table/cook stove, etc., and it made a great kitchen.

The other thing that I like about the XWT is that you can set up the frame and fly and hang the tent from the inside once the fly is up and secure - keeping the actual tent dry. Works great for takedown as well in bad weather.

Just my two cents. We had a great hunt last month taking some fine caribou. The weather was terrible and we got delayed going in and coming out and had a lot of travel issues getting out of Kotz, but we weren't alone and our time in the bush was great.
