Cabela's Guide Model 6 man Tents
Posted by AKHUNTINFOOL on Oct 11 2005
Jason

I own both the 4 man and 6 man Cabelas guide series tents. If they are set up properly they will with stand lots of bad weather. The 6 man is too tall for extreme winds however. Papa Bear Adventures in Bethel rents the 4 man tents to lots of hunters every year and have good luck with them.

To decrease the chance of the poles breaking and the the tent failing, you should purchase 12" - 18" stakes for all tie out points. Also extra tie outs can be added using 550 or parachute chord. If available the tent should be rocked down at all staking points. Always put a tarp inside the tent to keep you dry.

These are good 4 season tents but they are not the types of tents used to climb Mount McKinley. I also own a 3 man Wildcountry tent that is used on McKinley and I have used it for many years. This is a low profile tent that is made for extreme wind and weather. Good luck on whatever tent you buy.
