Great post Mark!

These evironmental impact studies have been done boy other user groups.  They also have been done regarding human interactment (including orv's boats, planes, and foot traffic) on specifically caribou.

You hit the nail on the he head, this herd is small enough it will not sustain with the amount of pressure it would get even if folks were limited to specific "trails".  Then coming into play will be the subsistence users who will put the reigns on this hunt all together when the herds stop coming through the sag, atigun, and anaktuvik pass's, read, end of hunt.

Next enforcement.  Currently we have ONE trooper who manages this area year round.  Trooper Bedingfield.  He had 2 assitants during peak times, one of which is now out of the field all together.  Where is the money going to come for enforcement, an already ludicrious situation would be even worse.  I'd love to think my fellow hunters would abide by the laws to there best behaviour however I don't see this being the case as proven around the state, including the haul road in particular in it's current state.

ALso something that needs to be anserwed would be andromodous fish and spawning rivers.  CUrrently you cannot cross rivers with salmon spawning in them, I don't know for certain how that works with fish like steelhead or arctic char/dollies.

Last nite it was pretty apperant that almost everyone in that room was against sb 85, hunters, non hunters and anti's alike.  I surely hope the SB will have the gumption to put the end ot the "repeal" again.  The repeal would allow the BOG to make the decision instead of through the legistlative system.
