You Asked, And You Shall Recieve

Good move, fullkurl. Let's cut through the bullspit. Here are the facts, excerpts from the most recent Caribou Management Report (2003), Central Arctic Herd:

http://www.wildlife.alaska.gov/pubs/techpubs/mgt_rpts/ca03mt-north.pdf

“By 2000, herd size increased substantially to over 27,000 animals.”

“Reported harvest on the CAH has changed over time, probably as a result of regulatory modifications and changes in hunting pressure.”

“The population objective is 18,000-20,000 caribou, and the harvest objective is 600-800 caribou (5 AAC 92.108)”.

“In July, 2002, we estimated 31,857 caribou based on a photocensus conducted during the post-calving aggregation.”

In regulatory year 2001-2002, 918 hunters reported harvesting 515 caribou.

THE ESTIMATED UNREPORTED HARVEST (by rural subsistence hunters) WAS 200-250, for a total harvest of 715-765.

Thems are the facts, folks.
