I stand corrected; fly Icarus, fly....
Posted by bushrat on Oct 14 2005
Mark,

If we were playing chess I'd topple my king over right now. I stand corrected; equality all the way, yes that's a noble goal and who knows, someday (if the human race lasts that long) we may just achieve it. If you're ever in my neck of the woods, please stop in for tea or a homebrew beer and we can hash the equality thing out some more. I suppose it could be labeled "perfection" too.

I will never legally be able to hunt whales or seals but that doesn't bother me. There are just some things I don't feel a need or want to partake in, nor do I feel it is my "right." If we get beyond the equality thing, it seems we agree on where things would quickly go (tier, permit, draw hunts) with the Dalton access. Maybe that's the place to start; maybe that should have been the discussion all along: IF WE OPEN THE CORRIDOR TO PUBLIC ACCESS, IT WILL ONLY BE WITH A DRAW OR TIER SYSTEM FOR X AMOUNT OF HUNTERS. Pick a number. Actually, had Seekins and AOC began with the above statement, perhaps this thing would have had wings. But they tried to circumvent the system, open it first, then we'll let BOG and others figure it out. In the long run, our entire system of wildlife management hinges on the stupid swing of the political pendulum; what one governor can do the next one can undo via the BOG. No continuity. No long-range stable plan. It sucks.

Salut,
Mark
