Let's evaluate

I guess I am satisfied to assume shawn did what was reasonably possible to salvage the meat from his groups kill. However, let's take a closer look at his statements.

"We actually hunted 5 days, the first day of hunting we shot 6 animals. We took care of the animals that day and packed 3 back to camp."
This sounds reasonable and legal to me. 4 hunters allowed 2 bou a piece. Shooting 6 is not unreasonable. Shawn says they have hunted several times before, so he has some experience.

"The water on the river came up and we couldn't get back across for 3 more days."
Again, this also sounds reasonable. I have hunted in unit 23 alot...I mean ALOT. This happens. Additionally, a co worker of mine was hunting in the same area and told me first hand of the water raising quickly. His party was dropped off by plane, but had to be picked up by boat. I also talked to other hunters who were in 23 at the same time and they said the water level problem was so bad helicopters were authorized to remove hunters due to safety issues. If you guys think shawns party should have had to swim across the river to get their meat. I would disagree.

"The am of the 19th we shot 2 more. All the meat, good and bad was brought back to Kotzebue."
No mention is made of where they shot these last 2. Perhaps it was close to camp and they were able to salvage everything quickly. He even said the 19th was the day thewy left so the 3 bou shot that day were obviously completely salvaged.
Please, all of you read the 2nd sentance..........All the meat.....ALL, was brought back to Kotz. His party complied fully with the law if this statement is true. I'm willing to accept it as true. If they also brought back their capes and antlers, I don't see a problem. He also says they only brought back 2 capes. Wanna bet those were from the 2 bou harvested on the 19th?

"Not only was the rain bad on the meat but the humidity and the birds eating the meat that we couldn't get to."
Ravens are quick learners and persistant. With the water keeping his party from getting to their kills, ravens would have taken a severe toll on the meat. It wouldn't be just ruined, it would be gone.

If any of you guys, bushrat, ovis, fullkurl, viktor, have ever been hunting in unit 23 during a rainy season, speak up. If any of you know shawn, or some of his party, and know them to be slackers, say so. Otherwise, give the man the benefit of the doubt. Strahan, this site is all about coutesy. The polite thing to do would have been to email shawn and express your concerns, giving him a chance off the forum to detail his hunt. We aren't allowed to bad mouth guides, transporters, and other businesses on this forum, but some of us sure enjoy kicking each other.
I've had enough too!
