Plenty of weather delays as we arrived in Kotz on the 17th a.m. We crossed three channels of river to make our camp from our drop-off point. We opted to make the first gravel bar our meat/antler/cape cache. Our water came up rapidly, overnight about four days into the hunt. So much so that we had to continue to move our meat higher up the bar, and worried that we would have to try something different if the water rose any more. The water rose without that much moisture in our immediate area (regular drizzle, mist, sprinkles but no real rain showers). Obviously to our north storms were happening. We could only get to the first gravel bar and no way could we move meat or supplies to the main gravel bar and our pickup point. Fortunately, the water receeded after a couple days and we were able to pack everything (didn't lose any meat or supplies) over to the big gravel bar for pickup. But I understand about the water rising quickly and stranding people. It was pretty hairy for a day or two, but we didn't do anything stupid and waited out the weather, which is really all you can do in AK - prepare, plan and have some patience and try not to do anything too stupid.
