Unfortunately the time you propose to close the season is the best for trophy antlers. Also many of the smaller bulls and cows will still have good meat. I will not hunt bulls during the time frame you suggest because I am a meat hunter first. I would not object to hunting only cows during the rut. However there are many here who care more about antlers than meat. And you will have most guides complaining that they will not be able to make a living if you take a portion of their prime season away. By the way, the Nelchina caribou hunt is closed for the peak of the rut.
