close the rut................?on unit 17
Posted by martentrapper on Oct 19 2005
I think you are trying to put tangible, black and white dates on an intangible occurance. Not all bulls become rutty at the same time, and younger bulls may not rut at all.
The trend seems to be to remove choices for hunters since "some" will make mistakes or poor choices, and give the rest of us "good" hunters a black eye. Many of you apparently feel that we must eliminate, as much as possible, these opportunties to make mistakes, or poor choices. I'm not generally in favor of that.
However, as a member of a local F&G advisory committe for a region of GMU 22, I feel local concerns are important.. If someone, or a group, wants to work thru the normal process and change the season dates in their area, you certainly don't need my approval. I would hate to see something like this on a statewide basis tho.

Byron, I don't see what your saying. Unit 17 bou season allows the harvest of one bull during aug 1 to nov 30 in much of the unit, for residents. I also see a non res season in portions of 17b and c from aug 1 to apr 15 that allows a harvest of one bou of any sex. It appears there is ample opportunity to harvest at least one bull at a time it may be rutty. Can you clarify?
