That's a Pretty Slippery Slope We're Treading.....
Posted by mdhunter on Oct 20 2005
a lot of good thoughts in these posts, but they raise more questions than answers.....

Let's close the season from 9/25 to 10/15 - I agree with MT that perhaps this might help to an extent, but the rut dates aren't set in stone, so it wouldn't be foolproof by any means.  I shot a bull in 2003 on 9/25, and the meat was just fine - it wasn't a big bull by any means, so maybe it didn't rut that year, but who knows?

I ALSO agree with MT's thought that creating regs because we feel we can't police ourselves, is a slippery path to trod - isn't that the anti-gunners main theme, that people can't be trusted to make good decisions, so we shouldn't have guns?  I'm very hesitant to propagate that type of legislation, WHATEVER the topic may be.  I would rather see us try to find solutions internally, as a group.

Others have stated that people's definition of edible might vary, which is another good point.

Another person stated that they passed up a bull moose because the bull was injured in the hindquarters, which probably tainted the meat.  Another hunter might have opted to shoot the bull (if he was legal) to end it's suffering and salvage what meat they could.....see how difficult it is to apply a general theme to each specific case?  I don't think either option is right/wrong in this case, it's an individual choice.

No solutions in my post guys, just observations that this is indeed a challenging issue to address, and I for one am glad that we have some good minds and good people trying to address it.
