[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] non-resident guides Posted by ovis on Oct 21 2005 I want to make it clear that I'm not picking on Tony right from the gitgo....I'm referring to the statement that he was worried a bit about having a young assistant guide out there.....this is becoming a real problem up here more and more....there are many fine assistant guides up here, but for everyone that is good, there are five that are marginal at best....the registered/master guides really need to be more selective and if they can't find quality assistants, then they need to downsize their sheep hunting operation...in one instance, I know an assistant that told an experienced sheep hunter that a band of ewes and lambs was a band of immature rams and there should be some "busters" close by, only higher up. An assistant from the lower forty eight that only spends a month up here a year can't nearly have enough sheep experience to deal with the regs as they stand today. It has always been my feeling that if you don't live here, you shouldn't be able to guide here. That said, I congratulate Tony on a great season....again Tony, I don't mean anything personal, just my take on the situation.
