Coues,

I like the MSR filter for several reasons.  Here are the two most important to me:

1.  It's a side-pumper.  End-pumpers like the Katadyn you mentioned leave you looking for a rock to brace it on after a while.  A side-pumper seems to be easier for me to operate.

2.  A Nalgene bottle screws right to the bottom of the filter.  I don't know why other companies haven't gotten on the bandwagon here, but if you can thread a water bottle right to the filter, that just seems to make all kinds of sense to me.  Other filters require you to insert a hose into the bottle and it you're clumsy like me you knock it over just about the time it's full.

I'd get the MSR Miniworks.
