I'm sure this is an area where many hunters would have many differing opinions. To some extent, a persons effort will reflect the value of that particular animal to that person.
4 hours on a fox is plenty in my mind. I'm sure your disappointed.
I've been told that once you wound an animal, you are no longer "hunting". You are now recovering a wounded animal and normal hunting restrictions do not apply. Restrictions on aircraft and the like are not applicable to recovering wounded game. Might even be able to use a copter.
Sorry about the loss. Never can tell how an animal will respond to an apparently fatal hit. Those crosses are really pretty.
