You did the right thing. A friend did a simular thing and he truned his self in and only ogt a $250 fine. He took care of the meat as you did and did everything correctly.

There was also a case recently where a hunter shot a bull buffalo instead of a cow. He processed all the meat and turned his self in. He was let off because he did such a good job and was so sportsman like in his handling of the situation.
