It does take time but is not difficult. I would highly recomend the book called the water dog. It starts off at 42 days of age and works itself up to advanced training. I have raised three labs and used this book exclusivly. It is important to remember that dogs are individuals. They are all different. You can develop there skills and try to make there weaker areas stronger. I have one lab that is perfect in the water yet loses interest quickly on upland game. I have another one that is the opposite she will spend all day finding a downed grouse yet only swim a short distance. Would i have wished for the perfect all round dog, of course. Yet even with champion breading you never know. Work with your own dog develop the bond and it will be the best thing you ever did.
