[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] deer hunting Posted by Sollybug on Nov 03 2005 The only reason to go to PWS is proximity or to save money. The deer are much more numerous and larger on kodiak. There is much more competition for fewer deer in PWS. If you can afford it, go to Kodiak. Try to avoid the forest service cabins which usually have sparse hunting around them for obvious reasons. Timing is key also. Hunting early the weather is nicer, but the grass, stickers, devils club and alder are nastier and the deer are higher. Hunting later, the deer are lower and easier to spot and walking is much nicer. However the later you go the more difficult the weather to the point of having difficulty hunting. You may not even be able to be dropped off or picked up. Hunting lakes, they can freeze and you must walk out. November and December can be downright nasty as the seas were past week. Some open beaches with the best hunting the weather can prevent pickup for a week or more. Split the difference and try Oct or early Nov.
