I'll second the Fairbanks Retriever Club.  I attended their winter training classes last winter/spring.  They started in February and met every Saturday until the first part of May I think.  It got a little cold some days, but I think they are looking for an alternate heated location to hold these classes this coming February.  Its a good place to learn the basic obidence needed in good retrievers, and are a good source of info on how to train your own dog.  

I ended up meeting a few people there and we formed a training group.  We got together once or twice a week all summer long to train.  My dog was 5 when we started, but by the end of the summer he was a pretty good hunter.  I shot aroud 2 dozen birds (ducks, grouse and ptarmigan) over him this year.  

So first off, does your dog like to retrieve at all?
