The areas of or around the Knik and Matanuska drainages up to Wolf point and around the Palmer Hayflats Fed Game Refuge are extremely hard areas to call. So many years with so many hunters with wild sounding rabbit calls tends to educate these critters a bit. Try calling thinking about the actual size of a rabbits lungs. If they are in the area and you are calling quietly then they may come to check it out. If you call loudly then anything close may very well take off. A small squeeker type coaxer type call also works well. Also keep in mind that Coyotes around here like to come to the edge of a clearing that you may be calling at and take a look see for a while and not always come charging out.
