driving the alcan in the winter....
Posted by calndux on Nov 08 2005
Email me if you like, I have driven it several times during the winter...I would not take the Cassiar (sp?) highway...Stay on the Alaska highway until Dawson then head south (unless you have lots of fuel and chains, because Cassiar has extremely long stretches without any services).  Take chains just in case (I have never needed them, but I have got into unplowed passes a foot deep or more on the road);  I don't get Canadian money I just use my credit card, but might be nice to have some Canadian.  Good luck, and sounds like fun.  I would like to hunt California; a cinnamon teal in the bag would awesome...Almost forgot...Cassiar highway is awesome during the summer with the necessary fuel, but during the winter it is a different beast sometimes..just look close before you take that route...I sujest contacting the B.C. road service...can jet the number online or at the border station (Canadian)
