Anchortown or Matsu
Posted by Paul H on Nov 11 2005
For the fields you're looking at, your best chance of getting jobs is in the Anchorage or Mat-su areas.  Not only is it the largest population center in the state, but most of distant communities fly folks in for medical care.

True, you can't just shoot a moose in your backyard, but it is geographically centered to get you to great hunting and fishing, and most people have to travel to some degree to the hunting grounds anyhow.

Anchorage offers the good amenities of a large city, but isn't so large as to have many of the big city problems.  Where else can you take your wife out to the symphony and a nice meal one night, and be out the next day hunting, fishing, skiing, or backpacking in true wilderness only an hour or two away?

If you don't like Anchorage, then you're still in the best spot to find a job in Alaska ;)
