I like Wiggy's waders
Posted by Damon on Nov 14 2005
A couple of years ago I ordered a pair of waders from the Wiggy's site online.  I think they were $50.  They are made of some sort of waterproof fabric and look like hip waders. When you get to a stream they just go over the top of your hiking boots. They only weigh about a pound.  The downside is durability. Because they are so light they won't last forever.  I got two years of hard use out of mine.  This year (the third year) I kept them on while walking through some brush and I tore two nice holes in them.  While they lasted they were great and I will order another pair.  Regarding the rubber band and rain pants idea- when I ruined the waders I duct-taped my MT050 ( Gortex) rainpants over my boots. This lasted for two relatively small streams.  On a larger crossing, things soaked through and I saturated my boots. Based on my experience, I won't use rubber bands or tape again. Also, take Fullkurls advice and hang hip waders or shoes if you decide to take those.  Last year my partner and I had a squirrel do several hundred dollars of damage to our equipment because we left some of it down.  (If only I could have found the culprit....)
