Brrrr!
Posted by Michael Strahan on Nov 15 2005
Fullcurl,

Yeah, I've done that too "back in the day".  But these days I love comfort perhaps a bit too much.  I remember one year I waded the upper Hallet River in bare feet and no pants.  Woo Hoo!  Never made it across; it was just too cold for my skinny body.  That glacial runoff can suck the ol' heat right out of you quick!  Two things I don't like about Teva river sandals; you have to get wet, and you have no ankle support.  I bet they weigh (and cost) more than a pair of glacier socks anyway.  Not for me!

I know a lot of guys wear Teva sandals on float trips during summer up here, and you could probably get away with it through the middle of sheep season if it was warm out (like it was this year).  But the wimps among us (such as myself) wouldn't dream of stripping down for some skin-on-water contact when its' cold out.  They can barely get me to take a sponge bath!

-Mike
