[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] flare gun option Posted by Forestar on Nov 24 2005 As has been said, a 44 may give you a false sense of security (or not) and there are logistical problems carrying the large can of pepper spray. I think most people worry about bear "attacks" during the night in their tents, and how un-handy a rifle might be in that situation. My solution (and I talked to a guide who actually used this method once -- very effectively I might add) is a 12 gauage flare pistol like the ones carried on a boat. The gun itself weighs next to nothing; is technically not considered a handgun, and the flares look like 12 guage rounds. Hit a bear at close range with one of those and he'll surely be discouraged. My $.02 worth. Previous: S&W 329PD Airlite AK4Life Nov 30 2005 Next: Prohibition on Flare Guns! Michael Strahan Nov 25 2005 Message Thread:
