[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] something to consider Cub Posted by RobR on Nov 29 2005 While even a rifle may not STOP a bear, a handgun serves two possible purposes in a bear encounter. One, it makes a loud noise and can scare a bear perhaps stopping an aggressive encounter in that manner. Secondly, and the reason I carry a .45LC cross draw (on my belly) in brown bear country, is that if a bear gets to me I have a weapon that I may have the opportunity to access and stick in his mouth or ear and kill him with.
