Smokey Bay Air
Posted by jmg on Nov 30 2005
I was also thinking of doing a same day hunt this year with Natron Air but when I called they said they were no longer going to do them this year but that Smokey Bay Air was going to take over on these.  I got an email from Smokey Bay awhile ago that said they were just getting the info on it and weren't too sure how to do it and what all would be involved.  That made a little nervous but I imagine they will figure out how to pull it off before they go out.  The one downside was that Natron used to fly out 2 people and each person could bring back 2 caribou.  I think the cost was around $600-650.  The info I got from Smokey Bay was that they will probably do 3 hunters, 1 caribou per hunter, for around $850.  I know gas prices are up, but this seemed like a huge jump in price for less meat.

Was hoping someone would get a thread on this going at some point to see what others thought of the value of such a hunt.  I have only been in Alaska a year and a half, so maybe the $850 for one caribou per hunter is a good deal and you just didn't know how good you had it with Natron, I don't know.  Wondering what others' thoughts on this were.
