Back up hangun for bear defense
Posted by hunter1339 on Dec 04 2005
I guess the subject ask the question. I am coming to Alaska for a moose hunt with friends in 2006. I am wondering what do hunters who live in Alaska carry as a backup for defense against Brown bears. I am curious not only what caliber, model, maker and barrel length but also the loads you all use. I was thinking along the lines of 41,44 mag or even a S&W 500. What do you think? I want stopping power but not over kill, if there is such a thing with Grizzlies. I have hunter black bear for years in Canada, but as you know you can't carry a handgun in Canada. However hunting in Grizzly country I would feel better packing something extra.
